Social IEDs are everywhere
Buried deep underground
In the desert I watched
Highly trained Soldiers
Get out of their vehicles
And do their 10s and 20s
And some are still
A fine mist in the wind
They only used them
Because they were so cheap
Easy to find and piece together
With bibs and bobs, dribs and drabs
That were left laying around
Unattended
They told us that
They were forced to do it
And did it to survive
But I watched them
Teach and train each other
Step by step
In complete darkness
But I still saw them
I still see them
Cheap, pieced together from
Things that don’t quite
Match up
Social IEDs
Afraid to take another step
But
The war indoors is too brutal
I take another step
Out my front door
BOOM
Body Armor ON, Brain Bucket TIGHT.
Good to go.
